The Expert Alliance for Tobacco Harm Reduction (EATHR), in collaboration with five harm reduction societies, urges governments to embrace the concept of harm reduction to reduce the devastating health burden of cigarette smoking. According to the World Health Organization, tobacco use kills more than 8 million people globally each year, of which more than half are among people living in Asia. The EATHR believes in the pivotal role of alternative nicotine products in tobacco control policies; by integrating harm reduction principles, governments can alleviate the burden of tobacco-related harm and ultimately, save lives.
